Augmentative Communication services help individuals who have difficulty communicating verbally or through written means. Our Augmentative Communication Team (consisting of a Speech-Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, Rehabilitation Technologist, Social Worker, and Program Assistant) works together with clients and their families to determine the best way to augment or enhance clients‚ verbal and written communication.
We use a variety of methods including non-aided techniques, such as manual sign language and gestures, and aided techniques, such as communication boards and electronic equipment. Verbal augmentative communication helps clients with no speech, unclear speech, or not enough speech to meet their needs. Written augmentative communication helps clients who are unable to print, have difficulty or pain when writing, or have writing that is very hard to read. May be eligible for funding through the Ministry of Health Assistive Devices Program.
