Occupational Therapist assesses day-to-day activities of self-care (feeding, dressing, toileting, etc.), play and preschool skills (reaching, grasping, toys/writing tools, eye-hand coordination and manipulative abilities). The occupational therapist provides hands-on therapy and will teach families, caregivers and clients, activities to encourage functional independence in their daily living.
Physiotherapist assesses movement in order to determine muscle strength, tone, range of movement, deformities, quality of movement, gross motor function etc. The physiotherapist will teach activities to the family, caregivers, and clients that will encourage gross motor development.
Speech-Language Pathologist assesses strengths and challenges in communication. Through observation during play, formal testing, and family feedback, the speech-language pathologist will evaluate the understanding and use of language, interactions with others, speech-sound productions, voice, fluency, hearing and feeding, and will develop intervention strategies with families and provide hands-on therapy.
Social Workers assess psycho-social development and opportunities in the environment to enhance social skills. They provide support and resources and coordinate services for clients. Our Social Workers offer support groups, and counseling (for example, on family relations, coping skills, behaviour and parenting skills).
The Medical Consultant works with the family and team to assess a child's development. The Medical Consultant may provide a medical assessment and referrals for further evaluations (for example, hearing and eye examinations). Orthopaedic clinics are also held monthly at the Centre hosted by local orthopaedic surgeons.
Recreation Therapists provide individual and group activities, social interaction, and therapeutic skill development for children already on our caseload. Various recreational group activities including swimming, tai kwon do, kayaking, therapeutic gardening, and arts and crafts.
Certified Music Therapist utilizes various musical instruments and singing to assist children with their social, developmental, and physical needs. Serves Children 0 to 18 years who are already on the Centre caseload for other therapy needs.
Therapy Assistants, under the direction of professional therapists, provide enhanced support to children. This can include one-to-one instruction, group therapy in the areas of communication, occupational and physical therapy.
Seating and Mobility Technicians use their technical expertise and knowledge in design, fabrication, and/or adaptation of equipment to assist with seating, mobility and functional independence.
Rehabilitation Technologists help customize and adapt technical assistive devices for clients in the Augmentative Communication program.
